Great post. Picking the few areas and sticking to those also requires trusting that our fellow people will do the same and follow through. We have to trust each other to a degree while being vigilant.

Great post, Tom. I love the reference to Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. His book "Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience" is a long-standing classic in psychology. "Flow" or being "in the zone," is a mental state of full focus, enjoyment, and immersion in an activity, where action and awareness merge. It often serves as a coping mechanism for stress and anxiety via focused work or purposeful leisure. Crucial in this age of digital distraction and doom scrolling.

Great point Doctor D! We can all find this zone. Sometimes by fighting back - it's not always an escape, it could be about engagement.

I enjoyed this post, Tom. Thank you. And I was proud to know how to pronounce “chick sent me hi” which my daughter taught me when she studied him in college.

Change your media habits, be a volunteer, and be a public person really resonate with me. The old media has shown itself to be dead and useless. Volunteering allows you to make a difference in someone’s life right now. Being public and doing the right thing gives strength to others. This is the way.

An excellent post, Tom. Thought-provoking and encouraging. I know that the more time I spend (on my “flow” activity) with my head deep in my food research, I forget completely about the miseries of the outside world. And that makes me feel better, feel refreshed and clearheaded when I re-enter the fight. Thanks for an insightful conversation.
