The hard truth, especially for New Yorkers who have read the paper for decades, is that it’s not cluelessness or simply bad journalism keeping from NYT from defending democracy. It's business.
I am glad you wrote this. I agree with most of it. You may have noticed that I often post on the Times's strange negativity toward Biden and indifference to Trump. Now for the first time I wonder if the Times actually does want Trump to win.

This is one of the best pieces I’ve read about the failure of the New York Times to face the real possibility that we are in grave danger of losing a nearly 250 year old democracy if Trump is reelected. Although dollar signs may be the motivation, I do not see how the election of Trump (goddesses forbid) is going to help the media, whether print, digital, or broadcast, in any way whatsoever. Trump is an enemy of the free press. Does this ever cross their minds?
